The total number of students in Meherpur Govt College is five thousand and seventy-three but this college has only 39 working teachers among approved 50 posts. The rest 11 post is vacant now. In this college, there are 8 honours subject and 4 post graduate subjects to be studied. But, the study is highly hampered due to teachers crisis.
More than 212 teachers crisis in Government College of Bangladesh
The principle has informed the matter to secondary and higher secondary education department. He urges to create a post for teachers here urgently. At the same time, he also recommends building students hostel to alleviate the problem of student residency.
Like this college, all over the country, 212 colleges have teacher crisis according to the principles of those colleges. There are 329 education organizations like commercial institute, teachers training college, Aliya Madrasha, and govt. college level college. Among them, 300 are colleges. The principles informs their many problems including teacher crisis in the predetermined table and submits it to the upcoming principle convention which is going to hold at International Mother Language Institute in Shegunbagicha on next Saturday.
More than one officers of secondary and higher secondary education department stated that from principles they have received the information of teacher crisis along with classroom problem and structural insufficiency problem. According to the last census of secondary and higher secondary education department, among 15289 approved posts of the teachers, 3754 posts are vacant. That means 25 % posts are vacant at present. The data also showed that the teacher crisis is high in suburban areas. The principle of Lakshmipur Govt Girls’ College has informed that he has 1800 girls student but his total number of working teacher are only 12 whereas there are 31 approved created posts.
Biriyanibazar Govt College in Sylhet which is situated in the own election area of education minister has 8320 students and it has only 32 working teacher against the approved 47 posts of teacher. In the college, higher secondary and honours are being studied. The principal said,” there is not enough teacher to take classes. For that posts have to be created and appointment has to be given on vacant posts.”
In Ranghamati Govt Girls’ College has only 9 teachers against 15 approved posts. Bagerhat Govt Girls’ Colleges have 22 teachers whereas the approved post are 34. There are 5500 students in Narail Govt Victoria College and it has 14 vacant posts yet . Like this way, the principles have given information on 212 colleges . The director of secondary and higher secondary education department Mr S. M Ohiduzzaman said,”‘ everything will be discussed in front of education minister. Then the guideline may come from there. ”
